Lucent LT WinModem
Actually, Lucent doesn't make any modems--they just make the chipset. However, the Lucent "LT" chipset supports V.90, 56K and is found on a lot of generic *and* branded WinModems. Technically, it is NOT even a "winmodem". See my comment --> |

You can get a "generic" PCI (internal!) Lucent LT WinModem for about $20. All the ones I've ever seen (about 5) work PERFECTLY with BeOS 5.0+. They are not "true" winmodems. The lucent modem chip actually does all the signal processing--unlike a "real" winmodem, which uses your CPU. The reason they are sold as "winmodems" is because they don't communicate with the driver over a standard serial port. This is actually an advantage, as there is even less CPU overhead than using a serial port! (as long as you have a driver, which fortunately, BeOS 5 comes with.)
So, if you need an internal modem, get one... just make sure it has a *Lucent* chipset! rating: 10 |

I have a Lucent winmodem on my computer and works perfect! Just be aware to disable PnP in your BIOS while booting, so that BeOS (5) make a specific "lucent" entry in yuor modemlist. rating: 10 |

I have also an ISA LTWinModem, it does not work.
Is there someone who have a technical document about the chip in this card. rating: |

Newer versions will have Agere written on the chip - Lucent changed their name.
Simplest way to get an internal modem working with BeOS, in Windows it supports v92 with latest driver! rating: 10 |
