I plugged it in, popped in my Pink Floyd The Wall dvd, and it worked the first time with VideoLAN Client.

Minor gripe. It's a little big in the front, sticking out a tiny bit with a "stylistic" edge to the front. I don't mind it, but some people might not like how it looks.

All in all, this is a good drive.

While this drive *works* well in BeOS i do have some problems with certain DVD's refusing to read. UPDATE: Mine has died immediately after the warranty expired. Be careful of overheating due to the poor read/write of this unit, you know it does this when it just sits and spins for ages before doing anything. Poor quality hardware... so gets downgraded to a 2.
