| TUNETRACKER SYSTEM IN ACTION - Using the VolumeBoost Feature |
Boosting and Reducing Volume
Command Center can adjust volume in a variety of ways, depending on your needs. In addition to manual volume control, accessed by click-holding or touch-holding on the volume symbol next to each event in the Command Center interface, you can also control the default volume certain audio events will play at. This is useful if you notice that a certain audio file, such as a newscast or program provided by a third party, is always too loud or too quiet.
PROGRAM LOG VOLUME BOOST
The playback volume of a variety of audio events can be adjusted right within your Command Center program logs.
Volume boost and reduction is expressed very simply. The scale goes from -10 (completely turned down) to +10 (double the normal volume), where zero represents the normal, untouched volume of the audio event.
The types of audio events adjustable from within your program logs are remote Internet streams (Relay-For) that you relay over your own programming, line-input of your sound card (Live-For), and specific audio files from your hard drive, in some cases, auto-selected based on date and time information in their filenames (GetPlay). More details on all three of those commands can be found in our TuneTracker Commands section.
Here's how the volume component is expressed...
- Examples:
# Relay-For +8 00:15:00 http://www.someurl.com/somestream.m3u
# Live-For +3 00:02:30
# GetPlay +7 /boot/Station/Weather/DownloadedEveningForecast.mp3
# GetPlay -4 /boot/Station/Programs/DailyCommentary_%D.mp3
Note that the volume component is displayed as a positive or negative number, complete with a + or - sign, and it's ALWAYS the first item in the line, immediately following the command itself. Do NOT rearrange the order of the items in the line or you'll cause the entire command to fail.
Switcher audio is not adjustable from Command Center, but instead should adjusted using the trim pots on your switcher.
SETTING VOLUME BOOST PER FILE
You can mark any file permanently, to indicate that file should always be played with boosted or reduced volume. This is handy for times when certain songs, jingles, or other audio files sound a little too weak or a little too strong, compared with the rest of your programming.
To adjust the volume, open the folder containing the audio file you wish to adjust, and use the scrollbar at the bottom to go way over to the right. Look for a column that says VolumeBoost. If you don't see it, you may need to select it from the Attributes pulldown menu at the top of the window. Click on the little hyphen in that column, corresponding to the file you wish to adjust, type in a number, and hit Enter.
Here are acceptable values to type in...
Note that you do not need to add a plus symbol to positive (volume boost) numbers, but you must include a minus (-) symbol for negative (volume reduction) numbers. Note also you can express the adjustment in numbers and decimals, not just whole numbers, giving you very precise volume adjustment.
