TUNETRACKER SYSTEM IN ACTION - Bundled Special Utilities
Instant Reports, with CSacker
SOME QUICK BACKGROUND
If you have output logging enabled in the Logging section of your TuneTracker System Preferences, then for each day you broadcast using TuneTracker, a plain text file called an "output log" is created. The output log lists every single item that was broadcast on a given day, and is stored in your BeOS computer's "home" directory, unless you have specified a different storage location for it in Preferences. To make it clear which file is which, each output log's filename contains the date when the file was generated.
CSACKER's ROLE
Suppose you want to see a list of the all commercials that ran on a particular day. You could scroll through the whole output log and look for them, but that's no fun! Instead, just drag that day's output log into CSacker, and type in a word which you know to be common to all the commercial-related entries. For example, since the output log listings include the paths leading to the files that were played, and you're likely to have all your commercials in a folder with a name such as "Commercials," simply type in the word "Commercials" in CSacker and click "Generate." That's all there is to it. By the time you take your finger off the mouse button, your custom list will have been generated and saved in the same folder as your output logs.
A second example. You need to report your playlist to ASCAP, BMI or SESAC. It has always been a major pain. Now, it's child's play. Just drag your output log into CSacker, type in a word all your songs have in common, such as "Songs" if that word is found in the path leading to your songs, and click "Generate." That's it. You have your report, ready to print out and send in.
OTHER USESCSacker saves your report using the original filename plus the word "filtered." If your original file is OutputLog_20020527 then your CSacker-created file will be OutputLog_20020527.filtered and will appear in the same folder as the original file.
- Stations which broadcast network newscasts must fill out affidavits proving the newscasts ran. If those broadcasts were pre-recorded, their playback will show up in the output log. If they were relayed live, the current version of TuneTracker will not log them, though a future one will.
- Many stations must keep track of how many public service announcements they play. These reports can be generated in an eyeblink in CSacker.
When CSacker gives an error message, it is normally because no instances of the word are found. If you have TuneTracker 2 or below, this can be due to using the wrong upper and lower case letters in your search. In TuneTracker Basic and Command Center distributions after June 1, 2006, CSacker is no longer case-sensitive.
"OPEN WITH" WORKS TOO!
In CSacker versions released after June 1, 2006, you can also open an output log in CSacker by right-clicking on the output log, moving your mouse over Open With, and selecting CSacker.
