SETUP - Importing and Prepping Audio Content

Ripping Music from CDs Using BeOS

There are a variety of programs out there that let you rip music from CD, encode it to a file, etc., but until recently there hasn't been a single tool for BeOS (or for most other operating systems for that matter) that would do everything broadcasters require. For a number of years, we here at TuneTracker Systems tried many programs and approaches to ripping and encoding songs from CD, using Windows and BeOS, and concluded that none of them do the whole job well.

So...we created our own, and in the great tradition of the TuneTracker System, it can be used at the same time you're broadcasting, on the very same computer.

The result is "TunePrepper™," a dream tool for music ripping and prepping that lets takes you from raw CD tracks to finished, polished, broadcast-ready content, accomplishing all of the following with a single mouse click:

  1.   Ripping the tracks from the CD
  2.   Looking the tracks up online and adding the track data (Artist, Album, Title, etc.) to them without your having to type any of it
  3.   Normalizing volume levels so tracks match up better from cut-to-cut when being broadcast
  4.   Trimming the silence from the front and back of the tracks
  5.   Encoding them to your choice of formats, including MP3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AIFF, and others, at whatever bitrate (quality setting) you want, in either stereo or mono
  6.   Storing them to your hard drive and copying the track data to BeOS attributes so the songs can be selected by TuneStacker™, our music selection software. Files are stored using the file naming structure and folder layout you choose.
  7.   Every stage of the process can be completely customized.
In addition, TunePrepper™ can be used to convert files on your hard drive from one format to another, such as changing WAV files into MP3s or Ogg Vorbis files.

It sounds self-serving to say it, but nobody ever regrets buying TunePrepper™. If you have not gotten TunePrepper™ and you plan to rip music from CDs or convert music among formats, just do it. It's $79.95, and you can order it right off our web site.

The full documentation for TunePrepper™ is available online.
