Optimizing for Speed
There are a variety of things you can do that will greatly enhance the speed and efficiency of your remote control connection.
- Change the screen resolution on your BeOS computer. The lower the resolution, the faster the screen refreshes will be. It's a simple thing to go into Workspaces in BeOS, and set one of your less-used workspaces, such as Workspace 4 or higher, to a lower resolution such as 800x600 or even 640x480. You can switch to the lower resolution workspace after connecting to your BeOS computer by using your Control or Alt key in combination with the F key representing the number of the workspace you want to switch to. In clearer language, if you want to switch to workspace 4, just do CTRL-F4 (or ALT-F4 if that's how you have your BeOS computer's hotkey set up.
- Change the color bit depth. Reducing the color bit depth from 32 bit to 8 bit will make a huge performance difference. You can do so in the same workspace you have adjusted to a lower resolution.
- Eliminate the desktop's background graphic. Go with a single color background on the workspace screen you intend to view when controlling your TuneTracker computer remotely. You can adjust the background by right-clicking on the desktop background, moving your mouse over "Add-ons," and left-clicking on "Background."
- Scrub! TT Anywhere refreshes the area right around the mouse cursor first, so use your mouse to "scrub" around in the area you want to quickly view.
