Desktop only. The Import tab and all of its sub-pages are part of Librarian Desktop and are not available in Librarian Mobile. To bring new audio files into your library, use Librarian on your station Mac.

If you've bought music from Apple — through the Music app today, or iTunes in years past — and downloaded it to your station Mac, those songs are already sitting on your hard drive. The Apple Music sub-tab lets you pick the ones you want on the air and brings them into your Station in one step: the files are copied into your Music folder and added to your library, along with the artist, title, album and other details they already carry.

The Song List

When you open the tab, Librarian reads the songs in the Music app's media folder on this Mac (in your home folder, under Music ▸ Music ▸ Media ▸ Music) and lists them, one per row, in the same Artist / Album order the Music app uses.

Columns — Only details that match a field in your library are shown, such as Artist, Title, Album, Year, Genre, Composer and Duration. A column appears only if at least one song actually has that detail filled in. You can drag a column's edge to widen it, click a column heading to sort by it, and scroll sideways if there are more columns than fit.
Checkboxes — Check the songs you want to import. Check / uncheck all, just above the list, checks every song that isn't already in your library (or unchecks them all).
Already in your library — A song whose Artist and Title already match a song in your library shows checked, greyed out and can't be clicked, so you won't bring in the same song twice. Differences in capitalization or extra spaces don't matter for this check.

The list is read fresh each time you open the tab, so songs you've downloaded in the Music app since your last visit show up automatically.

Only songs you've actually downloaded to this Mac are listed. Songs streamed from an Apple Music subscription (and protected .m4p files) can't be played outside the Music app, so they're left out.

Choosing Where the Songs Go

Below the list, pick how the imported songs should be filed inside your Station's Music folder:

Maintain existing sub folder organization — keeps the Music app's Artist and Album folders, so a song lands in Music/Artist/Album/.
Put all songs directly into the Station Music folder — every song goes straight into Music/, with no subfolders.

Librarian remembers your choice for this Station.

Importing

Click Import Songs (the button shows how many songs are checked). Librarian copies each song into your Music folder — your originals in the Music app are left exactly where they are — and adds it to your library with:

the details it already carries that match your library's fields (Artist, Title, Album, Year, Genre, Composer and so on),
its Duration, measured from the file, and
blank transition marks, ready for you to set on the Cue/EOM tab — or for AutoCue to mark automatically if its "keep marking new songs" checkbox is on.

When the copy finishes, the status line under the button tells you how many songs were imported, and those songs now show greyed out in the list.

If a file with the same name is already in the destination folder, the new copy is saved with a number added (for example Song 2.m4a) — nothing already in your Station is ever overwritten.

Details your library doesn't have a field for (such as Track Number or Album Artist) aren't imported — Apple Music only fills fields you already use.

"No Apple Music songs were found"

If you see this message, the Music app on this Mac doesn't have any downloaded songs in its media folder yet. Download the songs you've purchased in the Music app (click the download button next to each song or album), then come back to the tab.
